This comparison is based on current official Cloudways and Kinsta information. We have not personally tested either service and do not claim first-hand performance results.
Cloudways and Kinsta both reduce the work involved in hosting WordPress, but they solve the problem differently. Cloudways provides a managed layer over selectable cloud infrastructure and gives customers more control over provider, server size, region, applications, and scaling. Kinsta offers a more standardized premium managed WordPress platform with plan-defined allowances, included Cloudflare services, expert migrations, staging, backups, and WordPress-focused support.
Quick verdict: Choose Cloudways when lower entry pricing, infrastructure choice, multiple applications, server-level flexibility, and pay-as-you-go billing matter most. Choose Kinsta when you want a more standardized WordPress-only experience, simpler plan allowances, included CDN and edge services, and fewer infrastructure decisions. Neither is the universal winner.

Cloudways: who it suits best
Cloudways is the stronger candidate when the buyer wants control without taking on full server administration. Flexible customers select infrastructure, region, server size, and applications through one platform. Agencies can host multiple client applications, developers can use SSH, SFTP, Git deployment, staging, cron controls, and database tools, and growing businesses can scale resources as demand changes.
Its pricing can also be attractive. Cloudways’ main pricing page currently says plans start at $11 per month, while its WordPress landing page lists some DigitalOcean WordPress configurations from $14 per month. That difference illustrates why a buyer must compare the exact provider and server—not only a headline price.
Kinsta: who it suits best
Kinsta is the stronger candidate when the owner wants a standardized managed WordPress product with fewer infrastructure decisions. Each WordPress site receives its own isolated software container, while Kinsta manages the hosting stack, caching, Cloudflare integration, backups, security tooling, staging, monitoring, and support environment.
Kinsta’s entry Single 20GB bandwidth plan currently shows $35 monthly after the eligible free first month or $350 with annual billing. It includes one WordPress install, 20GB of server bandwidth, 10GB of storage, 125GB of CDN bandwidth, unlimited free migrations, and 14 days of backup retention.

Pricing and total cost
Cloudways pricing
Flexible pricing depends on the cloud provider, RAM, processor, storage, region, and bandwidth. Billing is hourly up to the relevant monthly amount, which is useful for temporary servers and changing workloads. However, the base server price is not always the complete cost.
- Cloudflare Enterprise is listed on Cloudways’ feature page at $4.99 per month per domain.
- Off-site backup storage can generate a separate charge.
- Email services, premium support, and other add-ons can increase the invoice.
- Additional bandwidth currently varies by provider: Cloudways lists $0.02/GB for DigitalOcean, $0.12/GB for AWS, and approximately $0.10–$0.17/GB for Google Cloud depending on region.
The summer promotion currently offers 40% off all plans for four months with code SUMMER404, plus unlimited free migrations, through September 15, 2026. It is a temporary Cloudways promotion. Confirm eligibility and the final order summary before purchasing.
Kinsta pricing
Kinsta uses plan-defined site, server-bandwidth or visit, storage, CDN, and backup allowances. Annual billing lowers the effective entry price from $35 monthly to $30 per month, billed as $350 after an eligible free first month.
Kinsta keeps ordinary sites running when a plan allowance is exceeded, but published overage charges apply. Current documentation lists $0.50 per 1,000 visits on visit-based plans and $0.50 per GB of excess server bandwidth on bandwidth-based plans. Storage, CDN, and other overages or add-ons can also affect the invoice.
Which is cheaper?
Cloudways usually has the lower entry price, especially for one modest Flexible server. Kinsta’s higher price includes a more standardized managed WordPress stack and plan-defined CDN, migrations, staging, backup retention, and support. The better value depends on whether Cloudways add-ons and management choices save money—or whether Kinsta’s integrated experience saves time and operational risk.
Performance architecture
Cloudways Flexible combines selectable cloud infrastructure with a managed stack that includes Nginx, Apache, PHP-FPM, Varnish, Memcached, and configuration-dependent Redis support. Breeze caching is available for WordPress, and Object Cache Pro is included on eligible plans. Customers must still size the server appropriately and configure the application responsibly.
Kinsta uses isolated WordPress containers and includes server-level caching, a Cloudflare-powered CDN, edge caching, image optimization features, database optimization, and application performance monitoring. Customers do not select an underlying cloud provider or raw server size in the same way.
Neither architecture guarantees a specific speed, uptime, Core Web Vitals score, or sales result. Theme quality, plugins, scripts, images, cacheability, database health, traffic, visitor location, and configuration remain important. PrimeProfit Picks has not run independent benchmarks for this comparison.
Scaling and resource management
Cloudways Flexible makes server resources visible. A customer can scale a server when traffic or workloads grow, subject to the selected provider’s rules. Scaling down may be more limited than scaling up on some infrastructure, and a larger server increases cost.
Kinsta customers generally scale by moving to a higher plan, changing between visit- and bandwidth-based measurement where available, or purchasing relevant add-ons. MyKinsta provides usage alerts and analytics, but customers must monitor allowances to avoid repeated overages.
Cloudways gives more infrastructure control. Kinsta gives a clearer packaged WordPress capacity model. Technical teams may prefer the first; buyers seeking predictability may prefer the second.
Backups and staging
Cloudways provides automated off-site backups and restore tools. Flexible customers can configure frequency and retention within current limits, while backup storage may be billed separately. One-click staging and application cloning support testing and deployment.
Kinsta includes automatic daily backups and a standard staging environment for every WordPress install. The entry plans currently show 14-day backup retention. Premium staging environments and more frequent backup schedules are paid add-ons.
For either host, staging is not a backup, and provider backups should not be the only copy of irreplaceable business data.
Migrations
Cloudways offers a WordPress Migrator plugin and expert migration options. Its current SUMMER404 campaign advertises unlimited free migrations through September 15, 2026 for eligible new customers and supported applications. Confirm the campaign scope before relying on it.
Kinsta advertises unlimited free migrations for supported standard WordPress sites. Complex networks, custom setups, unusual applications, email, DNS, or files outside the normal WordPress structure may require additional planning with either provider.
Support and ease of use
Both providers advertise 24/7 support, but the operating models differ. Cloudways support covers its managed platform and infrastructure, while Advanced and Premium Support are separate paid tiers. Buyers get more configuration choice but must understand servers and applications.
Kinsta support is centered on its managed WordPress platform. The dashboard and plan model remove many infrastructure decisions, which can make day-to-day management easier for non-server specialists. Neither standard support service should be confused with unlimited custom development, design, SEO, or debugging of every third-party integration.
Important limitations
| Cloudways limitations | Kinsta limitations |
|---|---|
| More provider, server, add-on, and billing decisions | Higher entry price |
| Some premium services cost extra | WordPress hosting is the specialized focus |
| Mailbox hosting is not the core bundle | Mailbox hosting is not included |
| No root access despite server flexibility | Plan allowances and overage rates require monitoring |
| Scaling down can depend on provider restrictions | Less infrastructure choice and server-level customization |
Cloudways vs Kinsta: final decision
- Choose Cloudways for lower entry pricing, selectable infrastructure, multiple application types, server-level flexibility, and pay-as-you-go billing.
- Choose Kinsta for a polished WordPress-only environment, simpler packaged allowances, included Cloudflare CDN, migrations, staging, backups, and fewer infrastructure decisions.
- Choose neither automatically. Estimate the exact first-year and ongoing cost, including bandwidth, storage, backups, CDN, support, email, add-ons, and the time required to manage the platform.
Cloudways is the flexibility winner. Kinsta is the standardization and managed-WordPress simplicity winner. The right choice depends on whether your business benefits more from configurable infrastructure or from a tightly managed WordPress platform.
