Short verdict: Namecheap is strongest for people who want affordable domain registration, straightforward DNS management, and entry-level hosting in one account. Its shared hosting offers unusually generous website and email allowances for the price, while EasyWP gives WordPress users a simpler managed option. The trade-off is that renewal costs are materially higher than many introductory prices, advanced hosting buyers may prefer a more premium platform, and some inclusions—especially shared-hosting SSL certificates—are free only for the first year.

What is Namecheap?
Namecheap began as a domain registrar and now sells a broad range of web services, including shared hosting, managed WordPress hosting through EasyWP, business email, SSL certificates, VPS and dedicated servers. That breadth is useful if you prefer one account for domains, DNS, email and hosting—but it also means “Namecheap” is not one single hosting product. The shared-hosting and EasyWP experiences have different control panels, limits, pricing and ideal users.
This review focuses on the products most relevant to a typical small website: domains, shared hosting, EasyWP, email, SSL, migration and support. It does not assume first-hand performance testing, and it does not repeat Namecheap’s marketing claims as independently verified benchmarks.
Who is Namecheap best for?
- Domain buyers who value free eligible-domain privacy and clear registration/renewal tables.
- Beginners and small businesses that need low-cost cPanel hosting, email mailboxes and a website builder.
- Owners of several modest sites who can benefit from the unlimited-site allowance on Stellar Plus or Stellar Business, subject to resource and acceptable-use limits.
- WordPress users who want simplicity and prefer EasyWP’s managed dashboard over maintaining cPanel hosting.
- Budget-conscious projects where premium managed-hosting features are less important than a low starting cost.
Namecheap is less compelling for a business that needs hands-on application management, highly scalable isolated resources, sophisticated staging and collaboration workflows, or a premium managed WordPress support experience. For those needs, compare our Cloudways review and Kinsta review.
Namecheap domains: pricing and renewal reality
Namecheap’s registrar remains one of the clearest reasons to consider the company. The official .com page showed a one-year registration sale price of $11.08 and a one-year renewal price of $18.48 when checked. An ICANN fee of $0.20 may be added to affected registrations, renewals or transfers. Eligible domains include free privacy protection, but registry restrictions exclude some extensions.
Do not assume the first-year price is the long-term cost. The .com sale is described as a limited-time offer for new first-year registrations, but the page did not publish a specific expiration date. Premium domains can also cost more. Always check the cart and the renewal column for the exact extension you want. Our Namecheap registration vs renewal cost guide explains the first-year, multi-year, transfer and long-term pricing differences in detail.
Hosting bundles introduce another price variation. At the time of review, the official domain-and-hosting bundle page offered a .com for $5.98 with an eligible annual shared-hosting plan, while some other extensions were free for the first year. Those bundled domains renew at standard rates after year one. This is why a domain price seen on one Namecheap page may not match another: the standalone registrar sale, hosting-bundle discount and renewal rate are different billing contexts.

Shared hosting plans and current prices
Namecheap offers three cPanel shared-hosting tiers. The annual bundle page displayed the following first-term and renewal prices on August 27, 2026:
| Plan | Current annual first term | Annual renewal | Websites | Storage | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stellar | $26.88/year | $55.88/year | 3 | 20 GB SSD | 30 mailboxes |
| Stellar Plus | $34.88/year | $85.44/year | Unlimited* | Unmetered SSD* | Unlimited mailboxes |
| Stellar Business | $58.88/year | $128.88/year | Unlimited* | 50 GB cloud storage | Unlimited mailboxes |
Namecheap’s main shared-hosting page also showed a 30-day free trial limited to one shared-hosting subscription per account, followed by plan prices displayed as $2.28, $2.98 and $4.98 per month in that trial flow. Its annual bundle page separately showed the annual first-term totals above. The company’s May 2026 pricing notice lists renewal rates of $5.88/$55.88/$102.88 for Stellar, $7.88/$85.44/$146.44 for Stellar Plus, and $11.88/$128.88/$251.88 for Stellar Business on monthly, annual and two-year cycles. These figures are not interchangeable: trial “after trial,” discounted first-term and later renewal pricing depend on the billing path and term selected.
That distinction is the most important pricing lesson in this Namecheap review. The entry price is genuinely low, but buyers should budget from the renewal column, not from a promotional monthly equivalent.
Which shared plan makes sense?
Stellar is the practical starting point for one to three small sites. Stellar Plus is the value choice when you need several sites, unmetered storage and automated backups. Stellar Business raises the storage and resource profile and uses cloud storage in the US; it may suit busier small-business sites, but it is still shared hosting rather than an isolated cloud server.
EasyWP managed WordPress hosting
EasyWP is Namecheap’s separate managed WordPress product. It hosts one WordPress site per subscription and replaces cPanel with a simpler dashboard. All three plans list NVMe storage, unlimited bandwidth and visitors, a temporary domain, CDN, SSL, WordPress automatic updates and HackGuardian. Turbo and Supersonic add more storage, resources and MalwareGuardian protection; Supersonic adds priority support.
| EasyWP plan | Current monthly offer | Monthly renewal | NVMe storage | Notable differences |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | First month free | $9.88/month | 10 GB | Core EasyWP features |
| Turbo | $13.88/month | $18.88/month | 50 GB | More CPU/RAM, Brizy, MalwareGuardian |
| Supersonic | $20.88/month | $26.88/month | 100 GB | Highest listed resources, priority support |
The live EasyWP pricing page calls Starter’s first month a free trial. Turbo and Supersonic showed discounted first-month prices rather than a free month. The refund terms exclude free trials but may allow a refund within 30 days of initial paid signup or within 24 hours of renewal; add-ons, domains and SSL are excluded. Verify the exact terms for the billing option you choose.
EasyWP is the better Namecheap route when you want one WordPress site and do not need cPanel email or multi-site allowances. Shared hosting is usually the better fit for multiple small sites, bundled email and broader file/database control. For a more premium comparison of managed approaches, see Cloudways vs Kinsta.
Features that matter in daily use
Control panel and site building
Shared hosting uses cPanel and includes Softaculous for installing WordPress and other applications. Namecheap also lists Sitejet AI Website Builder and an AI tool for WordPress on its shared plans. EasyWP uses its own managed dashboard, which reduces setup work but provides a different workflow from conventional cPanel hosting.
Storage, bandwidth and resource limits
All shared plans list unmetered bandwidth. Stellar has a fixed 20 GB SSD allowance, Stellar Plus advertises unmetered SSD storage, and Stellar Business lists 50 GB cloud storage. “Unmetered” does not mean infinite server resources: Namecheap applies CPU, memory, disk-I/O and acceptable-use limits to protect shared servers. A fast-growing store or application may eventually need VPS, cloud or premium managed hosting.
Backups
Backup coverage is plan-specific. Stellar Plus and Stellar Business include AutoBackup. Namecheap’s official AutoBackup guide says it retains six daily, three weekly and five monthly snapshots for those plans. Server-level backups may also exist, but Namecheap explicitly says those are for server restoration and customers remain responsible for keeping their own copies. EasyWP provides a dashboard backup tool for creating and downloading file and database backups; do not treat any host’s internal backups as your only recovery plan.
CDN and caching
Namecheap lists a free Supersonic CDN option with its hosting and includes CDN on EasyWP plans. Shared-hosting CDN use requires the domain to use compatible Namecheap web-hosting nameservers. EasyWP also includes advanced caching. These are useful delivery features, but they are not evidence of a specific load-time score, and results will depend on the site, theme, plugins, content and visitor location.
Security and SSL
- Shared hosting includes Imunify360, account isolation, firewalls and cPanel two-factor authentication support.
- EasyWP includes HackGuardian, with MalwareGuardian auto-clean protection on Turbo and Supersonic.
- Eligible domains include free privacy protection, subject to registry restrictions.
- EasyWP packages include a free SSL option.
- Shared hosting includes automatic Standard/PositiveSSL certificates for hosted domains and subdomains—up to 50—but the official offer is for one year.
The one-year SSL detail matters. Namecheap’s hosting page can summarize SSL as included, while its certificate terms clarify that the automatic shared-hosting certificates are free for the first year. Check the renewal price or plan-specific certificate behavior before the first certificate term ends. Security tools also do not replace WordPress updates, strong credentials, least-privilege access and independent backups.
Email hosting
Shared hosting includes cPanel mailboxes: 30 on Stellar and unlimited mailboxes on the higher tiers. That is adequate for basic domain email. Namecheap’s separate Private Email service adds webmail, calendar, anti-spam controls, 2FA and standard mail-client protocols.
For a product-by-product explanation of what is bundled and what requires a separate service, see our guide to whether Namecheap hosting includes email.
When checked, Private Email offered a 30-day free trial with no credit card required. Launch renewed at $14.88/year for one included mailbox with 5 GB, Expand at $41.88/year for three mailboxes with 10 GB each, and Scale at $71.88/year for five mailboxes with 15 GB each. The page also displayed the code MAILDEAL for first-year discounts, but did not show an expiration date. Treat it as temporary and verify that it still applies before checkout.
Migration
Namecheap says migration from other shared-hosting providers is free and guarantees fast cPanel-to-cPanel transfers. Manual migration depends on the individual case, so sites with custom stacks should confirm scope before buying. EasyWP has a self-service WordPress Migration Tool intended for both standard and larger or more complex WordPress sites. As with any migration, make a current independent backup and test forms, email, SSL and DNS after the move.
Support
Namecheap advertises 24/7 live chat and a 24/7 help desk/ticket system, backed by a large knowledge base. Phone support is not presented as the primary channel on the hosting pages reviewed. Buyers who prefer real-time voice escalation should factor that into their decision; buyers comfortable with chat and tickets may find the coverage sufficient.
Refund and money-back terms
- Shared hosting: a 30-day money-back guarantee applies to eligible first-time customers who did not start with the 30-day trial.
- EasyWP: a refund may be available within 30 days of initial paid signup or 24 hours after renewal; free trials and related products are excluded.
- Domains: registrations and renewals are generally final. Namecheap may consider a new-registration cancellation requested within five days, subject to registry restrictions.
- SSL: unissued certificates may be refundable within 90 days of purchase; issued/installed certificates have a narrower 15-day window. Other cases are non-refundable.
These are product-specific policies, not one universal 30-day guarantee. Review the official terms for the exact item in your cart.
Data-center locations
Namecheap’s official hosting knowledge base lists facilities in the United States (Phoenix), Europe (Amsterdam), Asia (Singapore) and the United Kingdom (Farnborough), but product availability varies by location. Shared hosting is supported in the US and Amsterdam, with the official table also listing Singapore and the UK location. Certain non-US locations or cloud-storage selections may add cost or change plan behavior, so choose based on audience location and confirm the available checkout options.
Namecheap strengths
- Competitive first-term domain and shared-hosting prices.
- Free privacy for eligible domains.
- Clear separation of domain registration and renewal prices on TLD pages.
- Three-site entry plan and generous multi-site allowances on higher shared tiers.
- cPanel email included with shared hosting.
- 30-day shared-hosting trial and a free first month on EasyWP Starter.
- Free migration options for shared hosting and EasyWP.
- 24/7 chat and ticket support.
Namecheap limitations
- Renewals can be substantially higher than introductory prices.
- Different checkout pages can show different promotional, trial and billing-term figures.
- Shared hosting has resource limits even when websites, storage or bandwidth are described as unlimited or unmetered.
- Automatic shared-hosting SSL certificates are free for the first year, not necessarily forever.
- AutoBackup is a highlighted inclusion on Stellar Plus and Business, not the base Stellar plan.
- EasyWP is limited to one WordPress site per subscription and is less flexible than a general cPanel account.
- Businesses needing isolated resources, advanced developer workflows or premium managed support may outgrow the platform.
Alternatives to Namecheap
SiteGround is a natural alternative for buyers who want a more guided WordPress hosting experience and a different support/tooling balance. Read our SiteGround review.
Cloudways is better aligned with users who want managed cloud infrastructure, server-level scaling choices and a platform built around higher-growth websites. It usually costs more and asks the user to understand more hosting concepts.
Kinsta targets premium managed WordPress users who prioritize a polished workflow, application monitoring and expert WordPress support over the lowest price.
The key is not “cheap versus expensive.” Choose based on the operational work you want the host to handle, the number of sites you run, the resources you need and the cost after renewal.
Final decision: is Namecheap worth it in 2026?
Namecheap is worth considering when your priorities are affordable domains, basic websites, bundled email and a simple path to WordPress. Stellar is sensible for up to three modest sites; Stellar Plus is the stronger shared-hosting value when you need multiple sites and AutoBackup; EasyWP Starter is the simpler route for one managed WordPress site.
Choose a more premium host when the website directly drives significant revenue, needs predictable isolated resources, requires sophisticated staging or team workflows, or would be expensive to troubleshoot during a traffic spike. Whichever route you choose, compare the full renewal cost, add-ons and migration scope—not only the headline introductory price.
